Understanding vigil
to be a period of devotion on the eve of a
fesival, the memorial garden at Christ Church has come to be called
the Vigil Garden. Located in the courtyard between the Church and
the Wheeler Education Building, this lovely garden is designed for
the committal of the cremated remains of baptized members of the
Church (or members of their family) who, upon their death, wish for
their mortal bodies to rest near the place where the great events of
the Christian Life -- Baptism, Confirmation, Marriage, the regular
worship of God -- have taken place. The Vigil Garden Committee is
entrusted with provision for maintenance and continuing upkeep of
the garden with funding provided by usage fees.
