Parish News and Notes
Our food bank
is always finding need. Please remember the food bags on your next
trip to the grocery store. Christ Church distributes approximately
two to three bags of much needed food per week. Monetary donations
for the food bank are also appreciated. See the
list of contents
for the bags.
Family Choir
Come join our family choir on Sundays this summer beginning
June 7th. We'll meet in the Sanctuary at 9:45 a.m., and sing
hymns and fun songs for our worship. We want children of all ages
and their parents. The only requirement is the ability to read the
words to the songs. Come have fun as we praise the Lord!
The Vestry
met Sunday, May 17th at noon in Wheeler House. We opened with
a prayer, accepted reports from the Rector, Senior Warden, Search
Committee, Treasurer, and Junior Warden. The following actions were
taken:
- Agreed to have a potluck/Newcomers' Lunchon on Sunday, May 31.
All new parishoners (less than a year?) be invited at no charge.
All long-standing parishoners are invited and asked to bring a
dish. The parish will provide plates, flatware, tumblers, serving
spoons and napkins. The Welcome Committee has the lead.
- Authorized the purchase of a new (lighter) processional cross with
memorial funds.
- Called for publication of Vigil Garden policies and procedures, or
creation of such policy if none exists [Fr. Saik has since found
the existing policy, which will be entered into a digital format.]
- Authorized the sale of coffee mugs on pancake breakfast sundays for
$5, to underwrite the mugs being used for welcome gifts.
- Authorized the sale of t-shirts by pre-paid order, in support of the
Lacombe Crab Festival and general morale. Proceeds from "10
Reasons" shirts will go to the EYC for mission trips and/or
pilgrimages. Proceeds from golf shirts are dedicated to the
upcoming Honduras Mission trip hosted by the Diocese and Christ
Church Covington.
- Directed vestry members to collect articles and digital photographs
for the Rector Search Committee to use in a publication for
prospective rectors and parishoners.
- Programmed payment of $100 per month from the operating budget into
the rector's discretionary fund. We also capped Fr.
Ernie's cash reimbursable mileage expenses at $1200 per month.
- Officially designated David Daigle, Jacques Walker, Kathy Daigle,
and Linda Mejias as the church's officers [as required for
state and banking purposes].
- Authorized $200 for a technical solution to back up computer data
for routine and emergency purposes. [A donation may render this
unnecessary.]
- Accepted donations from the ECW for $630 for chairs, and $100 for
the Honduras Mission Trip. We also agreed to send thanks to the
ECW for these donations.
- Authorized changes to the weekly money-counting procedures and the
bank statement reconciliation process to provide better checks and
balances.
- Tabled the issue of requiring all moneys received by the parish
(including Men's Club, ECW, Altar Guild) be deposited into the
operating account then disbursed to the individual ministries. It
was noted that these accounts are already audited by the parish
treasurer, and that other programs already follow these
procedures.
- Authorized an EFM Garage Sale to pay EFM tuitions.
- Authorized a Sunday School spin-off bake sale for outside mission,
with the proviso that a specific mission be designated beforehand,
and suggested the Honduras Mission. We also suggested Fathers'
Day for the timing.
- Adjourned at 2:25pm with a prayer.
